Current system:
955be
4gibs ram
ati 5850
22" screen

I think I may not be able to max out bf3, would I see a big difference with a new video card ?
I m not ruling out a second 5850 to crossfire but i would prefer a single card solution.

If you have a dedicated 550-600W psu, then definitely get a GTX 560TI or a GTX 470. These should run it on high and possibly max it out

what's your gaming resolution ?
a 5850 should do pretty will at high settings.
if you wanna play on Ultra with 50+ FPS then a HD 6950 or GTX 560TI will do the job.
a GTX 570 or HD 6970 will completely max it out 1080P on Ultra.

What ilysaml said lol... but yeah you're going to need at least a 600W psu to handle a GTX560TI, and that will satisfy you just right, but like ilysaml said if you want to run it maxed out and on 1080p, you're going to need a 650-750W psu

Your weakest link is the processor. The Phenom ii's just can't cut it anymore for CPU demanding games like BF3.Do you have it O.C.'d at all?

The 5850 is still a very powerful GPU.I wouldn't throw it away.Just get another for crossfire.

What is the make/model of your PSU?

It will be able to handle it. But a little overclocking and he would get a better frame rate.

I only say that because of experience.I have my 965 O.C. to 3.8ghz and in the BETA I was at 90% usage.Basically the CPU was maxed while playing it.Almost like running a Prime95 test.

I never mentioned anything about PSUs

Sorry ilysaml i didn't mean to confuse you, the part about the psu was added on by me, but i mentioned you in the post because i didn't want to sound like i stole your post and called it mine, that would make me a bad person :non:

CPU usage has nothing to do with the CPU strength... That's why i was surprised when you called a 955 BE a weak CPU
That CPU was a big hit in the market when it's first released... it was the most demanded on the market..lol
at AMD Dragon Clubs all over the world they achieved the 7GHz with liquid N2 with this CPU.

Psu is a 800watts corsair modular, should handle anything.
I look around for a used 5850 to crossfire or grab a new 570, did not thing about the cpu,
my mobo can take newer amd too i think, i ll check that out tonight when i get home.

If you want a new single card rather than dual 5850s then wait for the next gen and get a 7850/7870. You can push a minimum of 60 FPS with an overclocked 955, the only time you'd CPU bottleneck CF5850s or a new high-end card is above 60FPS if you're running 3.8GHz or higher.

Yes but the Phenom ii's are about 2 generation(soon to be 3) behind Intel.

CPU usage has nothing to do with the CPU strength.
Then can you tell me what CPU usage is?

By current do you mean the FX processor's?

What make is your 800 watt PSU?

As of right now it's not worth getting a AMD FX processor.Your best bet is to wait until a new stepping/revision which should be coming along in the next couple months.Possibly Q1 2012.

Intel is a "Thing" and AMD is another "Thing" Intel has QPI, AMD has HT, AMD SB has a different architecture than AMD PII, so a "Work Harder" is not the proper expression.
Aged ? How much performance Increase of the SB over the Phenom II ? 20-30% ?
Intel C 2 Extreme series is "Aged" and keeping up to Phenom II x6.
A CPU Intensive is also a term related to CPU Usage not the CPU Power.

Regardless the Power of SB over the phenom II you said cuz i'm not pretty sure of it, i would ask you what 3.8 CPU ? and the CPu usage depends on the services, programs in background that starts with the windows... each service and process take a part of the CPU usage.
I don't know how to check the CPU usage while gaming as i have to alt+tab it and this reduces it's usage.

What do you mean by that ? when you play at a toggled window differs from playing at a full screen window (consumes more GPU and CPU usage) so when playing at a toggled window, you don't see the proper CPU or GPU usage.
you can see GPU usage by MSI Afterburner, but the CPU?? some guys reported that they only able to see it throw Logitech keyboard or a second display monitor.
