WiFi Adapter or NIC?

So recently my NIC stopped working. It says I'm connected to the internet but won't let me actually use the internet unless i uninstall its drivers and reinstall them, only to have them become corrupted within minutes. So I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for networking options. What should I use, keep in mind I don't have USB 3.0 (really old mobo), and if it's going to be pci-e, it needs to be really low profile because of my graphics card.

do you have a gigabit multi node network?
