I have a question, Should I use my plain wireless internet connection or should I buy a wifi extender mainly to use the ethernet port on it? Will it be a decent benefit? I've recently been having lots of ping spikes and packetloss will buying the extender to use ethernet help at all In not only these issues but have more consistent/better speeds? thanks all 😀

or Should I buy a wifi adapter so I use 5Ghz internet connection (I have 100down and 6 up on 5ghz and 40down 6 up on 2.4) would I benefit more on an adapter or a wifi extender with ethernet? I dont care about speeds as much as long as the extender doesnt make it worse maybe A little bit better is fine because its better for me to have more consistent connection/ping.

Use a Powerline Ethernet adapter. That way you have a hardwired connection from your Router to your PC. This is the next best thing to a direct Ethernet connection.

They also make a dual purpose PoE 802.11AC adapter. So, you can hardwire your computer via Ethernet and broadcast your network it the same location for strong WiFi coverage.

When you say Wifi Extender to Ethernet. What do you mean?
A. WiFi Extender > Ethernet > Router
B. PC > Ethernet > Wifi Extender > WiFi > Router

A. Is good as you are getting a hardline connection. Then getting it close to improve your signal strength. This is setup is actually an Access Point.
B. It may be better than a WiFi card depending how long the Ethernet cable to the PC is. Since you could potentially get it closer to the Router than a card. By the way this setup would be a Wireless Bridge not an Extender.

Still I would go with one of the PoE options I listed. You can get the AC1200 or AV1200 series to save some money. I wouldn't go lower than that. Since these models have substancially improved range over home power lines. If you could run an Ethernet line through the walls. I would say do that for the best connection.

Thanks for the help a ton, by Wifi extender I mean the Wifi extender will be plugged in near to my computer (which is too far for direct connect with my router) and plug in an ethernet cable to my extender would it fix ping spikes/packetloss issues or help reduce it without lowering my speeds? or should I go with a 5ghz usb adapter? Sadly I dont have enough money available to me for powerline D:

I'm still not clear. Will the Ethernet cable coming out of the Extender be plugged in to your computer or plugged in to your router?

What is the make and model of the extender?

What is the make and model of the USB WiFi adapter?

What is the make and model of your router?

Does your computer have available PCIe slots? Or what is the make and model?

What is your budget?

What country are you in? So, I or someone else can give you a suitable link.

I think you are saying you will be plugging the extender into the computer. In which case it is nothing more than a glorified WiFi card. In all likelihood. The money spent on the extra capabilities of the Extender. Could have gone into high gain antennae on a WiFi card or a directional antenna. Extra features on a card your router doesn't support are wasted.

On either a PCI card or USB adapter. You want the antenna on base with a wire lead. So, you can move them up and away from the case and other obstacles. Computer cases and monitors make excellent shields to block WiFi. As do desks, mirrors, masonry, &c.

Visualize a straight line from your router to the antenna on your WiFi adapter. Everything in between weakens the signal. Some (metal, masonry) are much worse than others (wood, drywall). So, try to picture everything like a stove or fridge in between that direct line of sight.

A cheap card that accepts external antenna may be better than an expensive card. As you can use the money saved to attach a directional antenna. To focus the signal and place in the optimal line of sight position.

Router ------WiFi-------->PC = crappy connection
Router -------------------WiFi extender-PC = also a crappy connection.

The extender being right next to the PC gets exactly the same crappy signal as a WiFi adapter connected directly to the PC, USB or PCIe.
