Hello,

Long story sort, i have a DS that i need to connect to the Internet but they only support WEP security, i'm absolutely not turning my main wireless network into WEP because i know how insecure it is

I have a USB wireless networking adaptor, can i turn it into a WEP WiFi access point using software?

Thank you very much, help is appreciated

Solution
What were you planning on connecting the USB device to? Windows PC? Then you could use ICS (built into Window) or you could use connectify. Some users don't like the advertising that is now included in connectify.
Having a WEP access point, which is connected to the rest of your network is no different than having your primary WIFI setup with WEP. Your network, as a whole is vulnerable. If you have a primary router, with guest network capability, that could allow you to set it to WEP. The devices connected to guest could get internet access but still be isolated from your primary network.

Not if i can set the range to minimum (It will literally be next to it) and besides, I'll only use it for a couple of hours and disconnect it when i'm not using it

I will also monitor the clients that are connected to the WEP access point (since most hotspot software have that feature)

And let's also take note that my adapter is from 2008 and it's range is pretty bad, i can barely pickup a signal when i'm too far from it

In any event, so far everysingle hotspot software i've tried is horrible, it doesn't let me change security settings

As for a router with a guest network capability, i wish i could get one, but my ISP is Sky and they're known for not letting you change your router

It's not my fault stupid Pokemon Platinum has the old WiFi setup wizard that only likes WEP and AOSS access points
