Why do I need so much stuff in/on my home to get WiFi, if they can put it in a car

Well for one, WIFI in a car only needs to cover 15 sq foot.

My Router doesn't cover much more square footage.

Because wifi is merely a radio that connects two devices together. It requires a WAN connection to an ISP to get to the internet. And typically the landline connection at home is cheaper and faster than a LTE connection used for a car.
