First of all, very new to wifi and thank you for your help.
We want to get a wireless router to share between our two homes. They are close together, ~15' between. Roughly about 50ft between the router location and our pc's. We only have one gaming computer and several pc's just for browsing the internet. Was looking at the netgear nighthawk with range extender. I feel like this might be a bit overkill? Would really appreciate any alternative suggestions. Thanks and happy holidays!

ps
Oh, and none of our pc's have wifi adaptors, so we would have to have two wifi adaptors for the ones not close to the router.

There will not be huge difference between routers because most transmit at the legal maximum power. You will want to use the 2.4g band anyway since 5g is much more easily blocked by walls, especially exterior ones. So a pretty basic router from a good company will work as well as really expensive ones for what you want to do.

Do not even think to use a range extender it will just makes things worse. It must be placed in a area with good signal but close enough to the remote location to provide a good signal. This pretty much means you must put it outside between the houses.

There is no way to predict how well this will work. Many times you get extremely strong signals from neighbors when you don't want them so it should be...

There is no way to predict how well this will work. Many times you get extremely strong signals from neighbors when you don't want them so it should be possible. It is all going to depend on how the houses are built.
