WiFi starts misbehaving when I connect an Ethernet cable

Hello, I recently moved to a new house and got a 50mbps internet plan, but to make sure I'm using it to its maximum potential, I connected an Ethernet cable from the router to my desktop PC. The thing is, every time I connect the cable, connectivity seems to be gone for any other devices using WIFI, which is annoying because my family will start complaining. This happens too when I Disconnect the cable from my PC or the router, which leads me to restart the router. After restarting, everything is fine again.
My router is an Arris TG862.

Not familiar with that but what I've found is that is not a router. Was that provided to you buy your ISP?

What i saw them commenting a lot was Bridging the modem, if I do this, I can use my own router to access the network right? But shouldn't I be able to have both wired and wireless connections working at the same time? Why would the modem give access to just one type of connection?

Yes. Sorry, probably wrong link. The jist is that this modem is a piece of junk. By adding your own router you would be connecting the cable from the modem to the router and using the wireless router for your family to use.

You can direct connect to your new wireless router then without having the modem problems of stopping and starting. You are correct in using your own router. I assumed that the device you mention is what you thought was a router.

OK, it's clear now just one more thing, if I connect the new router to the modem, how do I disable wireless signal on the modem so it doesn't interfere with the router's signal?

Several ways. I would call your service provider and tell them what you are doing. They can best answer this solution.

But if you can't turn it off, change the settings to not interfere. Pick the channel farthest away from what you are using, if you don't use 'automatic channel selection. Example. if you choose channel 1, set the old device to channel 11(in the US), or 13 elsewhere. Change the SSID to something like "dontuse" and put in a key that no one has access to so that the other computers won't connect to it.

But again, call your ISP and they should be able to talk you through turning off the wireless.

Oh! I just went inside the gateway´s config page and found an option to disable wireless
