Hello guys, so im planning to buy gtx 1070 so i wanted to ask you will my gpu work on 1080p monitor 60hz.
My monitor is AOC 1920x1080p 22" 60hz. And will a 60hz monitor damage the card or vice versa. Thank you for your help!

Solution
No such thing as overkill :)

As long as you have the required PCI-e slot and power supply, it will work fine.

If you use v-sync or fast sync to reduce page tearing or just let the frames fly if the page tear(you can see more then one frame on screen at the same time, this results in a part of the screen that is ahead or behind the rest of it) effect does not bother you.
Kinda overkill in many games, but at least the op can play with consistent 60fps.

You cannot damage a monitor or video card this way anymore. Only the old days of CRTs and Hz overclocking. It doesn't matter if you have 60hz or 165hz. That is just the monitor refresh rate.

Hi,

It wouldnt matter the GPU works independently from the monitor so no hard will happen. But you will never get FPS more than 60 even if the game tells you a higher numbers because at the end the monitor who will display the game frames.

Only if you have V-Sync enabled. Most people don't because it introduces input lag.

I just want to clear up the 60hz/FPS thing.

Your video card can render as many frames as it can, but the monitor can only display them so fast. Now a 60hz screen displays 60 fps. If you are generating more frames, some will not make it to the screen or only partially make it to the screen.

As the user above mentions, some games will have more input delay than others with vsync. Features like fast sync can reduce this as can running games in fake full screen mode with the windows display manager on(aero for Windows 7/8/8.1. I think 10 always has the hardware accelerated desktop with such a card.)

Yeah the input lag may not be noticeable to some and it is per game. It bugs me so much that I just got a G-Sync monitor and called it a day. G-Sync however does not work below 30fps/30hz. I mean it will, but it will cause some input lag as it holds onto the last frame longer.
