Will 125w cpu not fry 125w motherboard under 100% load?

i know my question is kinda stupid, but i wanted to ask, for example if we put 125w cpu to 125w motherboard - will it not fry under 100% load? and when on cpu written 125w, is that wattage rating that is given, no matter how you stress it with stress test, it will use the same 125w? (if its not overclocked) A cpu woud be AMD Phenom II x4 965 3,4ghz 125w (HDZ965FBK4DGM) and motherboard http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/960GM-GS3%20FX/ Because i'm confused about wattage on the internet there's ton of that cpu usage and i dont know is it really use 125w or more. And, sorry for my bad english.

Hi, firstly it's not a stupid question, i would not recommend that motherboard as it will in no way be good enough for any kind of overclocking, even if you don't overclock running a 125 TDP cpu on a 125w motherboard is just asking for trouble, it may work fine now but further down the line things can go very sour. Even though the 965 is listed in the cpu support list i would not use a cpu on that board unless it's rated at 95 watts. There are always some discrepancies when it comes to cpu wattage, when overclocked it will definitely go over it's rated TDP, at full load on stock settings? it will exceed the rated TDP but not by to much: have a look here: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/phenom_ii_x4_965_be_revision_c3_review,4.html
So you can see why I'm against that board, rather have a look at one of the following boards:

What are options from gigabyte? since my 7 years old pc with gigabyte's GA-M61VME-S2 and Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8Ghz running fine even if the champagne was spilled on the opening of it, while pc was working.And i wanted to find cheap motherboard, so should i go with 140w tdp mobo? and is there any micro ATX board because i now have micro ATX board inside case not ATX and placing atx board i need some editional screws to install witch i dont have.AHH, i forgot to mention that i need onboard gpu since i dont have a gpu yet

If you have good airflow in your case and a fan blowing straight onto the VRM's (Voltage Regulator Modules) It's placed between the IO ports and the cpu socket then it may help going with the cheaper board, but still not recommended, just for peace of mind. Any of these would be an great option based on whatever your budget is. And yes go for a board that's rated for 140w TDP cpu's

my budget is about 100-150$ i say because prices are different in my country

Do you need a board with onboard graphics because you don't have an dedicated graphics card?

You can probably fit in an dedicated graphics card on your budget but that will just add extra costs.

is that gigabyte board support phenom II x4 965 out of the box? and what revision (1.0/1.1/1.2/3.0 it is on new egg there?

When you buy you should get the REV 3.0 automatically, but can ask for the REV 3.0 board

Well then you should ask if the board in question is available from where ever you buy from, can you give me the link for one of the online retailers you buy from?

they will be not in english language well we wait, once i get money from july 20 to end of it and see if its still there on my country online retailers, and if it will be there i buy it if its not i ask again for better mobo

i'll be choosing that Gigabyte's GA-970A-UD3 since you recommended and i think its good board with mosfet's heatsinked

That MB should be just fine with a 125watt CPU, the 965. The power is supplied by the PSU via the 4-pin CPU Power connector. It does not suck power from the MB. The MB has it's own power source from the PSU, the 24-pin power connector. The voltages of both will be controlled thru the BIOS.

The CPU is a 125watt CPU no matter what board it is in. It get's it's power from the PSU, not the MB.

EDIT:
The power for the CPU and MB are two separate circuits. The CPU basically controls the data thru put, all through out in the MB.

And, I would probably go with that Gigabyte MB, just because it's a good one.

@spooky2th, Many users have reported issues for running the latest FX CPU's for example the FX 8350 that has a rated TDP of 125w on motherboards with low quality VRM's that only supports 125w CPU's, there is a reason it only supports that. Many have reported that their VRM's has burned out (without an overclock) with a motherboard like the MSI 970a-G45/46 because of the low quality VRM's being used on them. By adding heat sinks on the VRM's on the MSI 970a-G46 did not help if the the VRM's is still of low quality.

Sounds like the amps fried the voltage regulator. I doubt that a 965 would cause this problem, even if OC'd.

i think of using a corsair cx series 500 or same series 600, because i looked information on good mid and high-end psu's, and these were: Antec,Seasonic and Corsair, but Antec and Seasonic price is not for my slim wallet 😀

I don't know the figures but I am sure that the default voltage of a FX 8350 is a lot higher that the 965. Higher voltage can translate into higher amperage easily. And I do not have a very good opinion of MSI boards. Lot's of them seem to be poorly designed as well as poorly manufactured. Cheap.

@spooky2th, I just used the MSI board as an example, but it's not limited to MSI only, other motherboard manufactures has the same issues with their cheap low end boards. Yes they will run the CPU's, but under high loads the CPU would throttle, clocking down to a lower frequency because these boards VRM's/PPD's just can't handle the the load. @sonyzz, Don't worry about the issues you read from the Gigabyte board, most of the time it's not the hardware at fault, but the user (user error)
It's a highly recommended motherboard along with the ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0/M5A97 R2.0
Going with a more expensive board will give you a peace of mind and will be better equipped running the latest greatest CPU's without any issues.

i forgot to mention that i have that asrock 960gm gs3 fx board and wanted to ask will it not blow up at testing? i want put in there cpu and rams and test if it works, and using it till i get some better board? and i'm confused about gygabite board those comment's about issues keep's me worrying :/ and there are no good microATX boards with onboard gpu, or ATX with onboard gpu? onboard gpu give opportunity that if dedicated gpu fails or go dead, u can use onboard gpu

I didn't know you already had the board, thought you still need to buy one, no need to spend extra if you already have it. But yes it will be fine for normal use, just don't overclock your CPU with that board and make sure you have good airflow in your case and a good quality Power Supply. Also remember if you do decide to keep the board it does not support the new AMD FX cpu's rated at 125w. Unfortunately there are no 9xx series chipset based motherboards with on board graphics. The following is a very good board that has on board graphics http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131942 but for just a little more it just makes more sense getting a 9xx series chipset board. The cheapest graphics card will be much more powerful than the on board graphics on your board and the one i suggested. As for the gigabyte board, there is nothing wrong with it. It's your choice what you want to do. do you play games?

sometimes because my old pc is just one core 1,8ghz i played a lot on it with onboard gpu it been able to play nfs u2 nfs carbon even fear 2 but so laggy, i dont oveclock it since i dont know how 😀 planning to install new fan at the back, i use this board until i get better board, and can i use cooler's master's tx3 evo with phenom II x4 965 125w because i heard that fan is spining loudly on some youtube vidoes, and tx3 has the dual fan coniguration (push>pull) i think maybe the original termal paste is not good changing it would temps be lower? and what i think that the original fan is not in that position - the fan blowing air in heatsink but when i work with electronics when i ask on specified forum i always get answer that fan have to pull out air from heatsink...

ahh and forgot to mention that temps in my room can get at 30C at very hot day so i really need super good cooling and i always keep one side of case, and i buyed this board when i dont know about vrm's about phases and stuff, but now i think that my decision was somekind wrong and that is better to use 140w board with vrms heatsinked

Yeah that's very hot and a aftermarket cooler is a very good idea. The TX3 EVO (it will work with your cpu and socket) is good but the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo is even better, the fan should blow the air through the heat sink out the back of the case with the back mounted case fan pulling the hot air out of the case, same effect as the push>pull configuration, but it's easy to swap the fan(s) to see what has the best effect for you. Arctic silver MX5 thermal paste will be better than the pre applied paste. It's not just about the VRM heatsinks but more to do with the quality of the components used.

ok but first i want to test this board cpu and rams when i get this week and see if its even work but the evo 212 uses plates while evo tx3 uses original amd lock up like stock amd cooler
