Hello,

I want to replace one of my 4GB 1Rx8 PC3L 12800U 1600MHz ram modules with this one: 8gb 2Rx8 PC3L 12800U 1600Hz module. Will this work?

In a nutshell, what is the difference between 1Rx8 and 2Rx8 and are the modules interchangeable provided everything else is the same? i.e. clock speed, pin number, ddr3l + voltage etc?

What's the motherboard or system model #?
If both RAM modules are PC3L 12800U 1600MHz then they should work and are interchangeable.
1Rx8 (single-rank) module and 2Rx8 (dual-rank) refers to RAM chips layout.

Just to make sure, always check the motherboard or system manufacturer's manual for supported RAM modules.

For a Dell Optiplex 3040, just make sure is DDR3 PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 1.35V
