Will a 120GB SSD hold my C drive contents?

Hi,

I was thinking about upgrading my windows drive to an SSD, so I cleared out as much as possible from my C drive and ended up with 113GB used on my C drive (Currently a HDD) and 351GB of free space.

However, I am unsure as to whether this will fit onto a 120GB SSD (Specifically a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB) as I know that the amount that windows shows the drive as is smaller than the size that the manufacturer gives, for example my 500GB Hard drive shows as 465GB. Therefore I would like to know:
Is this the same for SSDs (I'd think this is probably the case)?
Would the 113GB fit anyway?
If not, would it fit on a 128GB SSD?

Also, any opinions on the samsung 840 evo and samsung 840 pro are appreciated.

No, most likely not. 120GB SSDs are usually ~111GB in Windows, and 128GB drives are ~118GB. For performance, it's usually best to have about 20% of free space on the drive, so you should probably look into a 250-256GB SSD.

Yes, that calc is the same for SSD. My Kingston 128GB shows 111GB actual space. This is normal.

For a 120/128GB drive, you shouldn't really go over 95-100GB absolute max. An SSD needs some free space for optimum operation.

I am running Windows from a 120GB Kingston Hyperx 3K. And have 55GB free at the moment. For me 120GB is plenty for the operating system and software. I install all my games, and store file on a HDD.

EDIT: The Samsung 840 is one of/the best SDD's around. Obviously the Pro out performs the EVO but at a price.
