will a gtx 1050 work on a pcie 2.0 slot

my friend is getting 2 gtx 1070s for sli and she has an asus rog hero VII motherboard which has 3 PCIE x16 ports 2 of which are 3.0/2.0 and the third is only 2.0. She wants to get a weaker card, preferably the 1050 to put in the 3rd pcie 2.0 slot as a physX card. I have noticed that the card says it requires a pcie 3.0 slot but I have heard some people say otherwise. Will it work?
