yeah its pre build the psu says the max is 600w

That's the maximum upgrade ? As in the max you can purchase through them? Or max that i can upgrade?
Edit: I read more into it. Its showing if i were to buy as stock that would be the best Nvidia card i can get when purchasing the computer. I did not say anywhere that i can not upgrade past the 680.

Alright, that's good news. I didn't realize that it was just the best model, not the maximum upgrade.

First things first, make sure that the PSU isn't a proprietary design from HP. If it is, then your best upgrade is the GTX 960. If not, then replace it because prebuilt systems tend to have junk PSUs. Go with a bronze rated or better 600W PSU from Antec or Seasonic. Then, you can get a graphics card as good as a Titan X if you want.

i actually have a spare 650w from antec. But gonna keep the original psu for the sake of less work ^.^ but thank you for the advice.

You can go for a GTX 960 then. It should work.
I can only think of two possible issues arising from this.
1. If the PSU is junk, then it might run hot and fail after a few years (a possibility, but not likely).
2. The motherboard won't accept the GPU. In this case, the BIOS is probably locked and the upgrade will fail. (It could happen, but I doubt it).

if i notice any issues with the psu i can just swap it out . hopefully it will accept it 😀 if not i can always return it and purchase a different card.

Sorry. But there is no PSU on the market that is so cheap that you lose 50% of your total wattage.
