Question Will a Pci Express z16 work in a Pcie 2.0x16 slot

HI All

Im going to build a computer for office work. I have a Old Matrox video card M9120. Its a pci express x16 card. Im going to be using a Asrock B450 pro motherboard that has both a pci express 2.0x16 slot and a 3.0x16 slot. Will the Matrox work?

Should work, yes.

What CPU will you be using? If you go with Ryzen 3 2200G or Ryzen 5 2400G, then you can use integrated graphics and discrete graphics card would not be necessary (for office type workloads).

It should. The PCIe 3.0 spec is backwards compatible all the way to PCIe 1.0

Will a PCIe 1.0 card work in a 3.0 slot?

I still have a PCIe 1.0 EVGA 8800 GTS. I would like to upgrade my CPU/Mobo/RAM but can not yet afford a decent graphics card. Can I get a PCIe 3.0 motherboard and slip in my old graphics card? Edit: Found the answer: http://www.pcisig.com/news_room/faqs/pcie3.0_faq/#EQ6
