would a 64 x2 7750 work in my hp pavilion desktop media center 8000? the processor that i am running now is amd athlon 64x2 dual core processor 5200+ for true multi-tasking amd live

Yes it will if the 5200+ is an AM2 and the 7750 is an AM2+. But the point is one is 89W and the other is a 95W one, does your Mobo support that Wattage? check first with the HP compatibility lists.
