So, I'm wanting to upgrade my video card from a 7970 to the EVGA 980 ti HC 2-way SLI and I'm wondering if the 8350 will bottleneck it? I have the Asus Crosshair Formula-Z and I'd rather not have to swap out the motherboard and CPU yet.

Geez, really?? I've seen multiple threads saying it will depending on the game you play, but I would still get great performance. I plan on switching to intel just not right now unless the bottlenecking is going to be unbearable.

Basically based on the bottleneck you would create, you're better off using the extra $$$ from the 2nd 980 ti to buy the new CPU and Motherboard and a single 980 ti. It'll cost less and you'll be running the single 980 ti full bore instead of holding back 2.

Yeah my original plan was just one, but then I saw benchmarks for running two in SLI and.... I got carried away.

So I guess my next question is what is the better i7? I was looking at a 4790k since I've heard Skylake (I think?) had problems.

Go with Skylake. The problems have to do with number crunching/simulation type computations. Gaming use, the Skylakes are better. If it was for an Engineering/Simulation/Design machine, I'd go Devil's Canyon.

Also, for the most part, updates and BIOS updates are addressing the bug in general. But I, personally, still wouldn't trust them above gaming for a little longer.

Hi, Yes and No this depends on games / programs, your resolution ..., BUT! If you can get 2 980TIs, I think you can get I7 too, so go for it, there will be a huge leap forward from fx 8350 😉

It really depends on the FPS you're shooting for. If you're getting two 980 Ti's and are shooting for 60FPS, an overclocked FX can provide that in most games, most of the time, though you'll have instances where you'll have dips into the 40's or lower, regardless of how much GPU power you have. If you're looking to game at 120hz or 144hz and get anywhere near those FPS, a high-end Intel CPU is necessary.

Okay then! I've decided on getting the Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard as well. Although not sure which DDR4 RAM to buy...
