Will an adapter work for my hp z420, which has a 18 pin PSU, for a 28 pin PSU ?

I recently bought a new PSU for my computer, however the new PSU has a 28 pin connector whereas the motherboard only allows 18 pins, I purchased an adapter. Wondering if it will work
