Will an Athlon 760k bottleneck the GTX 960?

Wondering if this cpu would bottleneck this gpu. If so, by how much? If it is just by like 5 frames it won't really matter really. I think that I would go for the 960 ITX version from EVGA. There are other threads on this but they aren't very specific. Any help would be appreciated!

Probably by a few frames, but it would still be fast enough. You could overclock if it bothers you.

No real "bottleneck" to speak of. It's an overused term.

Well, i used to rock an awesome 1366x768 monitor with my awesome GTX 8800. #1366x768MasterRace
Joking aside, i agree with you.

So you think they'll be an alright match?

Do you think the A8-6500 I have right now would bottleneck it? I think the performance between the 760k and my current APU is very similar. Not sure worth the money upgrading it.

How would an A8-6500 do with the 960?

Thanks man, I was thinking the same thing because I knew that they were very similar performance wise except that the apu has the igpu. Do you think DirectX12 would get rid of the bottleneck?

Good point with DX12.

CTurbo: The 760K is cheaper than the A8-6500, but yeah you're absolute right about the performance comparison.

I'd personally get a CPU with an unlocked multiplier so you are able to bump it up a bit, because these AMD CPUs are definitely aging. It's worth the $10 or so more over a A8-6500, plus the $15 or so for a good cooler.

Hope this helps :)

Oh, should've read the whole thread...

If you want a real upgrade you'll need a new build, which I'm not recommending in any light. For now, a 960 paired with your A8 should give you more than playable frames.
