Will an i5-6400 bottleneck a GTX 1080?

So I have an i5-6400 @ 2.70 GHz processor and I want to upgrade my gfx card to a GTX 1080. I'm wondering if the processor will bottleneck the gfx card. Would you recommend me to rather get a GTX 1070 and upgrade to an i7 processor? Or would this be alright?

The gaming performance that I would like to accomplish would only be on a 1920x1080 resolution @ 60fps and no more than that (I don't have a 4k or 120 Hz panel). And I would want to get ULTRA settings on games such as Witcher 3, AC Origins and BF1. Just for comparisons. Not really heavy duty like Deus Ex.

Again this begs the question of which gfx card will be able to handle games at ULTRA settings @60fps. GTX 1080? 1070? 1070Ti?

Also is 8gb of RAM enough? Or do I need another 8?

Would love your help in this guys. Thanks!

For now I'd pick up a 1080. The 6400 may be a low-down point in some games but that's just a temporary thing. One day in the future you can upgrade that to a 6700 and level the playing field.

I upgraded to a 1080 Ti from a GTX 970. I stayed with my 4690K and 8GB RAM. I haven't been able to upgrade my monitor so I'm still using a 1080p monitor. I use MSI AB to monitor the resource usage and I haven't exceeded 5.5GB of RAM usage. If you upgrade I would instead purchase a 16GB kit. Compatibility isn't guaranteed when mixing RAM even with identical specs and manufacturer.
