Hi!
My specs are:
PSU: XFX TS 550W Bronze
CPU: Intel i5 6500 @ 3.2GHz
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A
RAM: 1x8 GB Hyperx Fury @ 2400 (planning to upgrade as soon as prices drop)
GPU: Asus Strix RX 480 OC 8GB
Case: Nzxt S340 Elite
Cpu Cooler: Cryorig H7
Storage: 1x Ocz Tr150 120GB (boot drive), 2xToshiba 1TB HDD
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster T260 ~1920x1200
So, i built this system a year ago and i am pretty happy with it so far. One may ask why i spent money on a Z170 motherboard only to pair it with a locked processor. Well, short answer is, i was feeling great with the 6500 at the time but was on a tight budget so i thought that a Z motherboard would be a future proof if i ever wanted to switch to an unlocked CPU.
I was thinking about selling my RX480 for quite some time now, put a little extra money and buy a GTX 1070 as due to the mining craze prices for the RX 480's have skyrocket but i could not make a final decision...Five days ago i decided to finally pull the trigger and sold my RX 480. Now, im in a kind of a dillema:
Should i invest my money on a GTX 1070 or should i go for a total overkill at 1080p and buy a GTX 1080? I have to point out here that i don't care about buying a used card as long as it's still under warranty, so i was thinking that instead of paying 450 - 500€ for a brand new 1070 if it would be a better idea to spend the same amount of money and buy a used GTX 1080 instead.
Yes, i know that a 1080 is a huge overkill for 1080p gaming but again, if in the future i decide to go to 4k gaming a GTX 1080 would be a better future proof.
So, long story short, how much of a bottleneck will i have if i go for the GTX 1080?
Thanks.
