Could someone please tell me if the E5200 can be replaced with the Q8300 below?
System is : HP DC7900 | Struggling to find the actual motherboard that's inside it, i haven't obtained the system yet but i want to if it's a possible upgrade from the dual core to the quad below. Both have the same socket i believe but can someone check please?

Intel E5200 2.5Ghz CPU is the one currently installed LGA775
http://ark.intel.com/products/37212/Intel-Pentium-Processor-E5200-2M-Cache-2_50-GHz-800-MHz-FSB

CPU I'm looking to use LGA775
http://ark.intel.com/products/39107/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q8300-4M-Cache-2_50-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB

Also, could one confirm whether or not this GPU would work in the system:
http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-730/specifications (4GB Version)

And last..what is the maximum speed of DDR2 ram that can be used inside this system if you can tell? I know it's DDR2, iv looked it up all over the place but cant find anywhere that says the frequency/mhz

I'm looking to install:

4GB DDR2 800Mhz
GT 730 4GB GPU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300

Link to the page i found the product (I haven't bought it yet, but if people can confirm this works then i will as it's cheap and i have all of the parts above im looking to install already)
Just need to know it will work, thanks in advance

Iv been unable to determine the exact motherboard inside this sytem, if someone else could inform me what one it is if possible it would be very much appreciated. Also..Windows 10 64 Bit or Windows 7 64 Bit would work on this, right?

P.S please excuse me if this is in the wrong location, it's my first time posting and wasn't sure where to ask this..

HPs, especially their workstation models, are usually quite picky about memory. Be careful what memory you buy. From my experiences, Kingston is the most compatible with HPs, but usually the fastest.

As for the processor, the Core 2 Quad Q8300 is the same generation as the Pentium E5200, so it should be good for that purpose. I'd recommend updating the BIOS to the latest before upgrading the CPU, or before doing anything else with it, though.

The DC7900 is a great system. I had a lot of experience with them back when they were new. They were reliable and durable, very different from HP's consumer line. You should be happy with it. The most vulnerable thing to fail on that model is the front fan, so you might want to buy a...
According to previous research, that motherboard does have a PCI-e slot available for such a card. You should be fine installing that GPU, as it is within PCI-e specified power draw limits, so there is no question about additional power connectors available from the PSU.

Thank you very much.

At my job I maintain a fleet of HP models similar and only slightly newer but on 24/7. I'd also recommend researching and getting a backup PSU. I've had to replace nearly a dozen in the last 14 months.

Did some research on what your looking at. "dgingeri" is totally right. HP usually favors Kingston and 800mhz ddr2 is the fastest you'll be able to do.

Q35 chipset LGA 775 board. No mention of actual board used means its probably a custom made for/by HP.

I still have an old system w/ a q9300 in it, very similar to q8300. Awesome chips, however, that q8300 has 30TDP more than the e5200 according to the links you posted. That plus the GPU could really be pushing it close to what the PSU can provide, and likely past optimal. These systems usually use proprietary PSU jacks on the mobo's so you normally have to stick with OEM type replacements.

On my older system(it was a gateway w/ q9300 lga775), many similarities by the numbers but not looks and my final GPU was a EVGA limited edition OC GT640. Power right off the PCIe. It was pretty cool. That being said, you should be able to do your project. I just hope this is all for pennies and fun because there's many affordable alternatives out there now . . . .

Around the time Dead Space 3/Crysis 2 were out that system had a hard time keeping 40fps at 1080 although it could totally rock 720p.

If using for basic non hyper-threaded optimized(lol!) computational things, I can tell you that those q series chips can give many modern hyper threaded chips a run for the money. I once did a comparison with an old laptop(qosmio x775 3dv80) that had 5700q in it and the q9300, on some very specific applications, was faster.

Good luck, and I hope this is more for fun than money.

The SO-DIMMs are just for the ultra-small form factor (with one expansion slot) version. The small form factor (with 4 slots) uses regular desktop DIMMs, which should be able to handle 16GB using 4 4GB DIMMs. Be careful not to buy fully buffered, registered, or ECC server memory, though, as most listings for 4GB modules are fully buffered server memory. If it has "F", "R", or "P" in the speed rating (for example: PC2-5300P) then it is server memory.

I am currently unable to find any such memory on Amazon or Ebay. All the listings on ebay were either registered/ECC or Fully Buffered.

Thanks for all the information folks. Ended up changing my mind due to all the prices of old parts being a bit ridiculous and it wouldn't work for what i wanted lol.

I have one last question however could anyone tell me whether or not the items below would work on this motherboard?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-0VNP2H-LGA-1155-Socket-H2-Intel-Motherboard-/282323563168?hash=item41bbcbb2a0%3Ag%3AQAwAAOSwA3dYc3jc

The items i want to use with this board and a 500W PSU
CPU Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor
GPU http://products.amd.com/en-us/search/Desktop-Graphics/AMD-Radeon%E2%84%A2-HD-7000-Series/AMD-Radeon%E2%84%A2-HD-7700/AMD-Radeon%E2%84%A2-HD-7750/15 (HD 7750 2GB Model)
And DDR3 1600mhz ram or 1333mhz if that board doesn't support 1600.

If someone could confirm them working on that board or find me another one thats cheap i would very much appreciate it.
It's just for CS GO, Runescape, some old Call of duty games and some newer games on LOW settings. I know it's not the best of builds but its all i can really afford.

I cant pay more than £45 for a motherboard those GPU/CPU/RAM are what im using for sure i just need your help finding a board if that one above is useless for it, any help is appreciated as always.

Well im trying to find another around £45 or under that seems alright atm

Also..i have an old Dell 740 (Biggest tower i think) its the big one out of the ones iv seen and it worked fine for years..now all of a sudden it says no cable connected when im using VGA, iv tried both the gpu VGA and the built in one and it did the same thing. It says NO SIGNAL when i try HDMI on the GT 520 gpu it has in it. It worked for years, i didnt turn it on for like 3 months and now i cant get a display on any screen in my house, tried 2 tvs, my benQ monitor and my old acer CGA monitor and same result on all of them but the cable works on my dads laptop to his TV..so it cant be the cable..

Anyone got an idea as to what the issue might be or a way to fix it? Iv selected the right display options always, i know what im doing it just isnt giving me any display on either VGA or HDMI, iv also tried spare ones and got the same result. If it would work i could throw an old GT 730 4GB in it and just use that for CS GO, i used it for CS with the 520 1GB and got around 40-50fps on low, it would be slightly better with the 730 and i would upgrade the old athlon dual core to a phenom of the same socket if optional. Would save me money too if someone could help me fix this issue.

Well, give it a try if you want, but a lot of Dell hardware was built with non-standard power supply pinouts and mounting holes. So, it is very possible you could fry the board, your processor, GPU, and memory because the 12V lead was plugged into a ground or something. I can't say for certain that this board isn't standard, but I would definitely hesitate to use it.
