Hi so my PSU is currently failing and I intent on getting a new one good enough for the 50 series GPUs. Right now there is a fantastic offer on an ASUS ROG one that I’m looking at but it’s ATX 3.0. I’m trying to work out what the main difference is between 3.0 and 3.1 and I don’t quite get it. I figured it would be best to ask and get caught up since it’s been a few generations since I’ve upgraded and things have changed a little it would seem

The cable is exactly the same for atx 3.0 and 3.1 and the atx 3.0 spec is actually better but you miss out on some modifications they made to make burning the cable much less likely. Check this out:

Do you think this would be okay if i was looking at getting a 5090? I know we dont know anything about it but to your best knowledge would you think its okay. I see rumours saying its going to draw 600w of power and in the description for this PSU it says "A 16-pin PCIe cable ripe for piping up to 600W of power to PCIe Gen 5.0 graphics cards" does that mean if the 5090 draws more i'd be screwed?

The PCIe 3.0 spec means the PSU can handle very large power surges to the GPU. You'll be fine and this PSU is all you need.

Yes you will be fine with a 1200W atx 3.0 PSU. It can deliver 600W from the cable but don't forget about the 75W from the slot. Plus I doubt the 5090 will actually draw 600W during normal gaming loads, compared to being hammered by furmark.
