I just recently purchased a GTX 950 FTW edition GPU. However my motherboard is an old LGA 775 ASUS P5G41T-M LX MBoard, making the Core 2 Extreme X9770 the best option for 775 socket. Should I keep this CPU and motherboard or upgrade to something like an i5-4460, i5 6400 or i5-4440.

Core i5 4590 is right at $200 if you're shopping the US. The i5 4460 is $10 at $190. The big difference between the two is slightly higher base clock rate on the 4590, and the 4590 has a higher turbo boost. Since there is only a $10 difference between the two, you might as well get the 4590 and get the extra few hundred MHz out of Turbo Boost.
You really should be looking at a new platform at this point. The GTX 950 is probably the fastest card you can get that won't be severely bottlenecked by your 8 year old CPU. A current i5 will be more than twice as fast as a QX9770 between architectural improvements over 7 generations and higher clockspeeds. An i5 would definitely help you even with a GTX 950 if you're playing really CPU heavy titles like Grand Theft Auto V or Arma 3.
