[SOLVED] Will CX650 run a 2080ti card?

Hi will my current pc set with the Corsair PSU CX650 run the new 2080ti cards? I was thinking of buying either the NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX™ 2080 TI or MSI V371-088R GRAPHICS CARD GEFORCE RTX 2080 TI 11 GB GDDR6

My currents pc set up is below an I purely run sim racing games in VR only.

MOBO: MSI z270 A-Pro
CPU: intel i7 7700k 4.2 GHz overclocked to 4.6ghz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32Gb DDR4 3200 (4x8GB)
COOLING: Corsair H110iGT
GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Aero 8GB OC (269 x 111 x 35 mm) recommenced psu 500 W
PSU: Corsair CX650
STORAGE: 5x 1TB Samsung Evo 850/860
Seagate 1x 2TB Barracuda 7200 RPM
CASE: InWin 805 Black (Supports High-End Graphics Cards up to 320mm (Height: 164mm)

I don’t know what the easiest way is to find out If I need a new PSU to run the 2080ti.

A breakdown of watt usage for my components would be appreciated.

Cool how much load will my current 650w be using with the new 2080ti. I understand the 750w will be better but I’m not tech savvy and not confident unplugging all the cables. Ideally the 650w will be ok at playing vr Max load?

also what 2080ti card do u recommend For my system?

To be honest 650w is enough but the CX range are mediocre quality. I’d want something high quality for a top end gpu.

650W is enough for the system tho you really shouldn't cheap out on arguably the most important part of your build, the psu. Get something from seasonic that's gold rated and you should be good to go.

Thanks for ur replies. Yes my system was prebuilt when I bought it. So I’m thinking of upgrading the card for a better vr experience. Don’t get me wrong the 1080 I have is ok, but think a 2080ti will be better. I’m not tech savvy so not confident taking psu apart to a newer better one. I only run the pc 2hr a day max At most. Anyone know what each of my components use in terms of wattage so I can add them up and see?

I know people who are confident say us just plug an play. But there’s so many wires to connected to the psu and other components I’m worried I won’t be able to put it back together. The Seasonic does look good as Zuce101 suggested.

You can go to pcpartpicker and add all your components there and it'll tell you how much power everything is drawing. And also for vr your 1080 should do just fine the 2080 is an incremental upgrade at best when not considering the ray tracing.

Yes I did think if the 2080ti is overkill. I only run virtual reality for sim racing. My 22inch 1080p monitor Is just for setting up the game. Then on with the headset. will Go to partpicker now. Cheers

If you care for ray tracing then go for the 2080ti. If you want better performance in 4K go for the 2080ti. Other then that just stick to the 1080. Probably won't have to upgrade it for another 2 years depending on your use case.

Thanks Zuce101. u right it’s makes sense. Just got some spare cash and thought about upgrading but was not 100 sure, the pc part picker is great. My current set up was 453w. And when I added in the 2080ti Msi is came to 524w. So technically as you say 650w is ok.

Not bothered about ray tracing tbh. How about the 1080ti gpu. Will that give me a better FPS in vr? Might be a better option. The 2080ti was more for future proofing

Yes it will be more then fine as long as you don't plan on overclocking. And are you having perfromance issues right now? If you can't match the fps with your monitors refreshrate then you should consider upgrading. Don't fix something that isn't broken.

2080ti will work on a CX650, although it wouldn't be my first choice as the CX series are not very high end, and a 2080ti most certainly is.

A 1080ti would work on your PSU, but it wouldn't be my first choice again.

If you can afford it, I would upgrade PSU. If not, you can use your CX650.

Like other said your full system draw around 500w more or less depends on loads.
