Will DDR4 RAM With a Higher Frequency Than the Motherboard Can Support Still Function Properly?

I'm planning to replace my current RAM with a single 8gb stick with a frequency of 2400MHz, but the box of my motherboard says it can only support "DDR4-2133". Will the RAM still work on the motherboard?

The frequency is the highest speed the RAM will go, doesn't mean it can't go lower.

The RAM will just run at the highest the motherboard will support.
