ok, i know this is a bit odd, but i need to essentially rebuild my main itunes library as its become a mess from screwing with it over the years. i have multi duplicate songs, and songs that itunes cant find because ive ether moved their file, or deleted them all together. so i want to start it fresh, and delete it all, but if i do that will the songs that i have in various playlists get affected?

Solution
Yes they will. The listing will actually stay in itunes, but if you try to play it you'll get a message saying iTunes can't find this in your library, and you can choose to locate it, or delete the entry I believe.

ok thanks, i know where all the files are so i can find them easily. i just wanted to know what to expect.

i went through with the delete, the all songs diapered, then i guest itunes pulled music from my playlists and repopulated the music library with 663 songs. only a few playlists got their songs deleted, but i didnt listen to lose anyway so no big loss. at least know my library is in a refreshed state, and ripe for a rebuild.
