Will FX-9590 work on M5A97 LE R2.0?

Bought AMD FX-9590 4.7GHz Octo Core (Socket AM3+) and I tried to put it into M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo but it doesnt seem to work (black screen). Cleared cmos, disconnected most devices, still nothing. Guy in store assured me it should work on this mobo but i think hes clueless. Is cpu <language> or this mobo is too weak?

Noticed that on official specs of mobo it says
Supports CPU up to 140 W

Asked about it in store but that question got dismissed; "It should work" was a response. First and last time i trusted random IT worker with advice. I usually do proper research before buying. Serves me right.

The store didn't appear to be very knowledgeable. The 9590 is too high tdp and that board isn't very suited for it. Only 4+2 power phases, no heatsinks on the vrm, etc. I'd take the 9590 back and get an fx 8350 or 8320 if it were me, even then that board isn't going to be a good candidate for overclocking.

The 9590 is just a factory overclocked 8350 but tends to have a lot of issues without a proper motherboard, solid power supply, liquid cooling. It draws too much power and is known to either thermal throttle or throttle due to vrm's overheating pretty often.

There are some out there. Though I would probably head straight for the 990FX chipset boards, since this is certainly the last motherboard the system will have.

Perhaps not even a FX-8350.

Thanks, Ill research these tomorrow. If i'd knew i have to get another mobo i'd get intel cpu. Got this current mobo cause last one died like year ago, thought it would be enough for fx cpu. Guess not. Too late now. At least gona use it as server

They range from $160-215 or so. That's if you're dead set on using it, my original recommendation would stand though to either return it or sell it rather than fool with it. It just has more problems than benefits. Just my personal opinion. With the comparatively high cost of the cpu, the requirements for a high end motherboard, cooling and power supply the benefits just don't live up to the cost. For the same or less you could replace the cpu with an equally nice motherboard, adequate cooling and a faster cooler running i7.

Well that sucks. Last time i trusted sellers advice. I'm gona try to return it tomorrow, i think its closed today. Too bad I didnt saved a log of my conversation in which i asked if that cpu would work on that mobo. So many mistakes in one day.

seemed to show quite decent performance for 150£ cpu. Didn't realized gona have to spend another that for mobo that supports it. In the past i didnt want to spend more than 50 for new mobo every time i upgraded.

For multithreaded apps, the total passmark ratings are a reasonable estimation of capability.
The FX-8xxx with 8 threads do well in that environment.

If your usage is gaming, realize that most games use 2-3 cores and usually depend on a fast single master thread. It is the single thread passmark rating that is more relevant.
For example, the FX-9590 has a total passmark rating of 10251 which is very good.
But, the single thread rating is 1720. That is as good as you are going to get with a FX processor.

By comparison, a cheaper I5 -6400 has a total rating of only 6493, but a single thread rating of 1810.

If your budget is lower, the i3-6100 is an excellent mid range processor. total = 5497, but single = 2102.

If your budget is higher, the i5-6600K with a decent overclock is about the best gamer around.

You need not overclock, but 80% of the 6600K chips will oc from 3.4 stock to 4.6.
A 30 % improvement with no exotic cooling needed.

Yes, I was aware that single thread performance is better for gaming, which this machine is mainly intended for. When i bought this mobo bout year ago i was thinking ahead about upgrading cpu to FX, particularly to that one i just bought, while still being able to harbor my current cpu Athlon 2 x4 640. It performs pretty good but at this point with gtx 970, I think it became a bottleneck and one of oldest parts of my system, so I think i need to upgrade.

I've contacted a store and managed to negotiate a refund on monday. Now I have to decide on Intel cpu and mobo.

Says cpu is 125W, while my mobo gives up to 140W.

Kills me that i bought this mobo for stupid reason now.
