Will HDMI 1.4 on GPU and HDMI 2.0 on monitor work for 144Hrz?

For now, I have a GTX 750ti with an HDMI 1.4a port. I'm in the market for a new monitor and was considering the Asus XG258Q. I know the 1.4 spec on the GPU wont do 240Hrz.

BUT, I'm wondering if I'll get the 144hrz that the 1.4 spec does put out if connected to a 2.0 port on the monitor?

It does not. It has 1x HDMI 1.4a, 1x VGA and 2x DVI

I read here on display ninjas website that 1.3 and above can output 144hrz

Your right, it will output 144 @1080P.

Your right, it will output 144 @1080P.

Alrighty. So to be clear, despite going from HDMI 1.4(GPU) into a HDMI 2.0 port(monitor) I will at least get 144hrz from the connection right?
