Will I be able to run it?

Hey guys. So I have recently bought the Lenovo y50. I wanted to get a desktop but I realized that a laptop would be better for school. It has an intel core i7 4710HQ, 8 gigs of ram, and a gtx 860m. Will my laptop be able to run games such as AC Unity, the Witcher 3, Far Cry 4, and other next gen games at 1080p? I'm not that much of a graphics whore so I'll be fine with medium to high settings. One more question tho, will the graphics for these games on LOW settings still be better than ps4 and xbox one graphics?

Solution
Yes, an 860m is a mid-range GPU and should be able to run all current games at medium to high settings.

As far as your second question goes, the low settings on most games will be less than any current console. Most consoles equate to the medium or high settings on a PC (but not any of the ultra settings).

In short, a current console will be comparable (but not quite so) good at games than your laptop.

For those games, it should average high settings but you may not be able to up the AA / AF to maximum (it will really hurt performance) on them. It is still a bit of a guessing game on the final settings, as these games aren't out yet.

If you wanted to do ultra settings (the highest available), you would need an 870m or 880m, possibly even in SLI (some laptops do have this). Keep in mind that these are laptops we are talking about, and not desktops :)

No, that is a minor change in resolution. If you run in windowed mode on a game to have a lower resolution, it can improve performance - but it would normally have to be a significant difference (like 720p or 480p).

Plus which, that laptop is pretty good at games - so unless you really want a particular video option, I would run it at full resolution.

Well, yes, to a certain extent. You will get about 20% better performance by doing it, but at a cost due to the scaling that occurs. Also, that system has a good video card built in, so you should not have to worry about changing the resolution.

I would never recommend using scaling. The blockiness that you get from scaling severely reduces the quality of the display. If you want to run at a different resolution, select windowed mode on the application (nearly all games can do this) and then choose a lower resolution.
