Will I experience bottlenecks If I upg only gfx to NVIDIA GTX 960 on the following system

CPU: Intel Quad Core 9400 2.66GHZ
Motherboard: Intel® Desktop Board DG45ID
HD: 7200RPM
RAM: 8GB
I want to upgrade my GPU from ATI HD 4890 to NVIDIA GTX 960, am I gonna experience bottleneck if i only upg my GPU?

Thanks

Solution
Yes, a large bottleneck most of the time, however you'll still have a better experience with that GPU.

Games like Fallout 4 would not run well on that CPU, but games like Tomb Raider would run a lot better.

I'm only interested in running Counter strike global offensive at 150fps+ stable so i can get 144hz with my benq monitor, is that possible with this gfx and my system?

It really depends on the games you want to play. I have a similar system with a Q6600 that will run a lot of games fine and will bottleneck on some. But if you want to play games with a low CPU intensity, you might get away with it.

You will definitely benefit a lot from a CPU upgrade. That means changing the motherboard and RAM as well, so you might as well throw in an SSD if you decide to make the investment.

If you're running it in 1080p it should not be a problem. Maybe look at this

CS GO 144FPS?

I am fairly certain the 9400 will not be sufficient to maintain 144FPS most of the time. However, if you get the GTX960 I would consider using Adaptive VSYNC.

a) CS GO ON
b) VSYNC OFF, FRAPS ON
c) Tweak game settings until above 144FPS most of the time (90% or so)
d) force on Adaptive VSYNC for CS GO only ( manage 3D settings->...)

Now VSYNC will be automatically turned on or off. If you maintain 144FPS you will have no screen tear and the latency will be fairly small since it's still 144FPS.

If you drop BELOW the 144FPS GPU output then VSYNC is turne OFF automatically to avoid STUTTERING due to frame time variance (missed updates). You get screen tearing but do not get the STUTTER and added latency (sudden FPS drops with VSYNC ON add both stutter and noticeable latency at the same time).

I guess it would work then, I wouldnt get bottlenecks on csgo?

I don't understand your bottleneck question above.

There is always a bottleneck. It's usually the CPU or GPU at any given time, depending on your hardware, the game, and settings.

I'm not sure how to explain this any more clearly, and I thought I explained the purpose of Adaptive VSYNC.
