I was going to buy a Msi gtx 970 twinfrozr V. But recently i came across the 4gb memory issue of the mentioned gpu.
I will be playing games on a single 1920x1080 monitor. I dont plan on doing multiple screens and neither 1440p nor 4k. I want to ask that will i get any performance drops due to this problem of gtx 970? I will use my pc for new as well as old games.
Also tell me is my 4 gb gpu future safe for new and nex gen games considering the vram usage.
My rest of specs are as follows:

Cpu : intel i5 4670k.
Ram :G skill ripjawj series 8 gb (2x4gb) ram.
Mobo : gigabyte z97x gaming 3.
Psu : crosair Cx550 80+ gold semi modular.
Hdd : WD 1tb hdd
Case : thermaltake chaser a31 mid tower.
Cooler : Coolermaster hyper 212x

I don't own this pc yet. I am going to build it in few months.
Can you please tell me about gpu issue?
And this is my first build.just so you know. I've done some research on the said topic but haven't found any satisfying answer or thread

Solution
No, you will not. The VRAM in GPU's are only affecting multiple screen performance. You will not gain any extra FPS by having more VRAM.

Usually, 2 gigabytes is all you need.

Just a little notice on your build; Id replace the CX550 with a more high quality PSU. The wattage is OK, however, the quality of the PSU won't be.

Take a look at EVGA and XFX's PSU's. Personally, I use a EVGA Supernova G2 750W. I recommend it strongly!

Good Luck!
Axel.

''I've done some research on the said topic but haven't found any satisfying answer or thread ''

reading all the threads - reviews and all you say you did and your still asking ??

seems to me it looks like your chances are real high that the card you get will have some kind of 970 issue -- more than likely coil whine unless you one of the real lucky one ????

@illuminations ,thanks for the heads up. How does one tell the quality of psu? For all i know 80+ gold should be good (not very bright in hardware department)

@junkeymonkey , i have no plans for sli. Well not yet. All i said was that i didn't find any thread having these specific 1080p,no multi screen, no sli things so i created my own. All im asking is that will future games need more than this usual 2 gb vram?

Hey there,

Read this article and clear your mind over this gtx 970 issue. To answer your queries: -

At 1080p res, 2GB VRAM is plenty, having more is a added advantage for some high demanding games. As you are not playing at higher res or using multi-monitor setup, 4GB (3.5+0.5) is good enough.

GTX 970 is still a very good card without any doubt.

Following suggestions are for your build:

Mobo: Gigabyte is fine though i would recommend Asus Z97-A
PSU: Don't buy this PSU. Stick with Seasonic/Antec/XFX series 600W+ PSU [Don't compromise on the quality of PSU]
HDD: WD which one Green, Blue or Black? Stick with blue.
RAM: What are the timings and voltage of this RAM?

Regards,

also cant you wait to see what the new AMD cards may have in store ??? you may buy now and in a few weeks [if they release soon] sit there and think '' dang I wish I would of waited '' cause these NVidia cards will still be for sale if they [amd] turn out not as good or over priced ???

If the so leaked/rumored specs of AMD's upcoming R9 380x are correct then it would be huge blow to Nvidia. Some of the leaked specs are: -

Vertically-stacked high bandwidth memory
4096 stream processors
64 compute units
256 texture units
4096-bit memory interface to connect to four SK Hynix HBM devices
The GPU’s memory interface operates at 1.25Gb/s data-rate (1.25GHz effective DDR frequency) and delivers whopping 640GB/s memory bandwidth.

However, next card won't be in the market before mid-Q2 of 2015.

RAM: Your link is not working. It is taking me to the main page of NewEgg. check these options

WD1003FZEX is WD Black Caviar drive which is very good in performance.

You should be alright, this problem generally only affects those using multiple monitors or 4K displays, so at single monitor 1080p you'll be fine. 95% of people wouldn't have even noticed the VRAM issue were it not for the report that came out.

On a side note: I wouldn't know as I don't have experience with the mobo you've selected, but just ask in the components section whether or not your ripjaws will fit under the 212x, considering it is essentially the same cooler as the evo, which is on the larger side.

Was also going to point out that you may have trouble fitting the GPU in that case but the MSI is noticeably smaller than it's Gigabyte counter-part.

Have fun building!

I have four monitors running off two 970's and havn't had any issues so far so I wouldn't let the rantings of a few AMD shills put you off (@OP).

+1
Finally an answer from a person who is using 970 with multi-monitors setup. :)

I disagree with comments that 2 gig is ok for 1080p (which is why I think its a joke the 960 is good for 1080p), but at the same time I dont see any of my games hitting 3.5gig either.

I usually average between 2-3 gig vram usage on games.

Watchdogs will hit 3.4gig tho, and shadow of mordor hits 3.2 gig and I play at 1050p not 1080p.

I thought I'd chime in as I'm pretty sure that there's four of them!

From what I read just because your system uses the extra vram does not mean it needs it, if its there often it will be used. There are plenty of people maxing out or running high setting on 770 2gb at 1080p on the latest games.
