Will I have to reinstall my programs on HDD with new windows installation on SSD?

Hey all.

Yesterday my windows boot SSD crapped on out me and I had to get a new one. Previously, I combo'd it with my HDD where I have all my programs stored on it. I got a new SSD today and I am reinstalling windows on it. I'll then connect my HDD to use. My question is, will I run into registry issues and have to reinstall all my programs that are on my HDD again? If I have to, is there something I can do to prevent having to do this in the future.

Thanks.

It depends. Some programs can still run, but any settings or file type associations are lost.

Other programs is totally dependent of registry keys being stored since install, and thus won't work at all unless installed over again.

Thanks Grobe. Would a registry backup help this then? Or is the registry unique to that installation of windows?

The majority of applications will not work with a new OS install.
They'll need a full reinstall.

And you can't do anything with the Registry. Doesn't work like that.
It is unique to that particular OS install.
