I'm about to upgrade my motherboard and my processor and I was wondering if I will lose any of my data, will I need to reinstall windows

My current motherboard- MSI A78M-E45 FM2+ / FM2 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

My current processor- AMD A10-7850K Kaveri Quad-Core

My new motherboard- MSI Gaming 970 Gaming AM3+/AM3 AMD

My new processor- AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core

Solution

with the price of the CPU (in my country anyways) it's pretty close to an older gen i5 cpu (4 series, although available CPUs of 4series are not overclockable, this one by far for a few more bucks outperforms the amd cpu) or even i5-6500 those are much better gaming CPUs (for today's games). this 6 series (i5-6500) is compatible with a ddr3 ram motherboard (meaning you can stay within budget)

these are the budget solutions

you have to remember that even though the AMD cpu has...
You will probably have to reinstall windows. You will generally lose everything with a fresh windows install. Even if you have a separate partition for Windows and your data, there is always the chance you could mess it up. I would recommend adding a USB external disk to your shopping cart so that you can backup everything.

I already bought the parts, but out of curiosity what were the parts you had in mind?

you have to remember that even though the AMD cpu has more cores... and is faster... doesnt mean it's a better performer.
example; most games do not use more than 4 cores (today, only a few games use more than 4 cores), as well as, Intel cores are much stronger (per core) than the AMD cores, So it doesnt matter if you have 100 amd cores.. if they can only perform a certain amount each.. and the game is only able to use 4 of them... the game will not run any better. If you have a 4core cpu of which every a single core performs great then the game will run better.

I used to buy AMD CPUs... but after i tried an intel CPU... i don't see a reason not to buy intel... it just performs much better (most of the time yes you pay more but for a few bucks more; 10-30$ depending on your choice the CPU blasts the amd out of the water, per say)

im not sure if you know anything about cars; but this is sorta the comparison

having

car 1 - AMD

300 horsepower
100 torque

car 2 - Intel

250 horsepower
250 torque

Car 2 will always be faster

Solution
If Windows was pre-installed on the old hardware then it will likely not work on the new hardware as it will not activate. If it boots it will make you try to activate and you then can change the product key but you will need a retail key which you will need to purchase. If you bought Windows and installed it yourself then you should be able to activate it once you have it running on the new hardware. It really comes down to whether or not the computer boots into Windows with the new hardware installed, then it is just a matter of getting it to activate.

or if you know cell phones more...

8 core 1.0Ghz core phone will not outperform a 2.0Ghz 4 core phone (yes i know core speed is faster on amd cpu but it's not better performing)
