I mean it really shouldn't.

I've heard from everyone that an i5 7700k is the best for gaming right now.

An i7 and above are not as good for price/performance.

So no, it shouldn't.

I watched a video done by digital foundry about the GTX 1080tiand how it performs and scales ran through different resolutions and believe it or not the GTX 1080ti is so powerful that an i7 will even bottleneck it. I couldn't believe . The results were very fascinating. The GTX 1080ti also scales very well for 4K gaming. I wouldn't suggest using it otherwise . Then you're really bottlenecking...

because that resolution is so gpu bound



anything lower the i5 just isnt good enough

Should be okay for 4K games at the moment with that CPU. The lower the resolution the more chance of it choking the 1080Ti.
