Hi I'm currently planning to go for an upgrade for my GPU. The list down below will be my current setup.
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x
MOBO: Asus TUF X570 gaming wifi
GPU: MSI Armor GTX 1070
PSU: Seasonic Prime 850w gold

I'm really trying to go for 3080. I already did an upgrade for my PSU and now since the stock is technically non-existing (due to bots).
I'm having a second thought that maybe i should go for 3070 instead of 3080. I'm not planning to go to 4k gaming or what not but 1440p gaming is still expensive for me
although i thought 3080 would be a sweet spot if i would later on decide for 1440p gaming and 4k. Please enlighten me if is it really worth waiting for stocks for the RTX 3080?

Solution
so basically, we wait for the prices to stabilize?

While you should anyway, you should wait until you actually need a GPU that can drive your monitor. There's no benefit to buying a GPU to "prepare" for a future resolution you're not currently using if your current GPU is meeting the needs of your current resolution.
The value of a 3080 from the reviews I have seen are there only if you will be gaming at 4k resolutions.

While the graphics card is the most important component for fast action gaming, you should be able to do what you want with a less expensive graphics card.

Please enlighten me if is it really worth waiting

Waiting is only based on your need to upgrade and judging by your current setup you don't need to upgrade and I think DSzymborski summed it up nicely.

Ultimately, this is the reason why scalpers are trying to corner the GPU and CPU market. They are banking on the new generation of builders inexperience on parts and longevity of their hardware. People want to show off these extravagant systems and they don't really need to do so - thus panic ensues because of artificial inventory manipulation (buying it all up within seconds) and price gouging (putting all that stock on eBay like sites at 100% or higher markup).

What people should do is let the scalpers buy up all the inventory and let it rot in their basements while AMD and Nvidia replenish to the point where the supply exceeds that artificial demand. This will naturally occur in a few months anyway, but it would happen much sooner if people didn't hype these parts up so much. That said an experienced builder knows how and when to upgrade based on their current hardware.

My advice is never plan your system builds around hardware releases.

yeah, hopefully the stock will stabilized soon, but the current situation the cost of rtx 3080s here in my country cost like twice the SRP, only a few stores offer near the SRP price and always out of stock. Probably, I will wait till the stock goes back to normal.

It looks like you nearly at 1440p. Running 5700xt is for me 100fps at 1440p ultra or pretty high settings depends on game. If you gets 3060ti you there easily. If you 3080 then heck yes unless you wants the 100fps in MSFS2000? I used to love the flight sims and it a little amusing to me how this is able punish the pc today. Then agains when I play flight sims they not getting fps we enjoy today.

For me way I look at this is its about personal budget as for card can buy. They really make you pay for those last few fps as you go up in gpu cards. But some would say no this is perfectly reasonable to buy the 2080ti or 3090. It really depend on person and how much money htey have to spends.

Just got email form EVGA for 3060ti but they sold out. $400 rtx3060ti maybe this around middle ground some say too high others no spend more. It may be awhile before it get back to normals for buy the gpu.

Get RTX 3080 , in two years 4K screens will be super cheap , because at that time 8K screens will be rolling , and you will regret it.

Get RTX 3070 only if you cant pay for RTX 3080 IMO .

I have the 3700X on an X570 board as well. I bought the 3080.
With that said, I have plans to also upgrade to the 5800X or 5900X.
If you plan on continuing to upgrade, I'd say get the 3080.
If you know you're good for a while and would rather save the money. The 3070 is absolutely fine.

Here's a link comparing your current 1070 vs a 3070. As you'll see, the 3070 is a hell of an upgrade itself..

Looking at the 3070 vs 3080, its still a decent upgrade between these two, but is it worth $200+ dollars?
