Will mediocre CPU be compensated for?

I just bought a new laptop with the following specs:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 3 GB GDDR5
5th Generation Intel Core i7 5700HQ (2.70GHz) but can utilize Turbo Boost to reach 3.5GHz sometimes when conditions are met
16GB Memory 1TB HDD 120GB SSD

It comes with a free copy of MGS5: PP

The processor is lacking, but will the additional RAM and better GPU compensate enough to run the game? I'm just curious to know if I should sell the game or if it's playable.

These are the MINIMUM requirements for the game

OS: Windows 7×64, Windows 8×64 (64-bit OS Required)
Processor: Intel Core i5-4460 (3.40 GHz) or better; Quad-core or better
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (2GB) or better (DirectX 11 card Required)
DirectX: Version 11
Hard Drive: 28 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

I'm guessing it is unrunnable.

Not necessarily. You should look at the minimal specifications for the game. Usually they mean what they say. The game may not even be multithreaded or only limited multithread support as it's still not a skill that's widely understood. Some games or applications purposely limit the number of cores they will run on at one time.

Second, if the processor can not keep up with the cpu bound load a more advanced video card isn't going to help very much. It can compensate *some* but not as much as if you had a CPU with more performance. There's another minor consideration as well. Performance will also be affected by background programs, the amount of CPU time they are using will have a direct effect on your foreground process. This is especially true of virus scanners (and that's not something you can do without on Windows).

a1r .... thats not totally correct. with gaming companies they always over estimate the true needs to run the game....here is the specs to run warlords of draenor (world of warcraft)http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=9062&game=World%20Of%20Warcraft:%20Warlords%20Of%20Draenor

my son's PC i built to play it currently has an old pentium 4 521 processor (single core), 4 gb ddr2 ram, and a gt 430 graphics card and gets 15-20 fps while is heavy use situations like raids or in major cities on low settings but if you plug in his specs it shouldnt even load the game.

Actually no not all gaming companies purposely over state the minimal requirment for games. Some mean exactly what they say for a good experience and not a crappy marginal one. Oblivion's minimal specifications immediately come to mind. The minimal wasn't good enough to actually enjoy the game. It ran, sure, but horribly.

my second link shows his pc's exact specs and the game he stated.... it will run it at high settings even....and thats at recommended settings not minimum settings
