Will my desktop PC support the GTX1050 and the RAM mentioned?

Hey guys, I was planning to upgrade my stock Dell Inspiron 660. Its got a 450W PSU and a Dell 0XR1GT motherboard. It's pretty dated as is and I was thinking of getting a Zotac GTX1050 Ti OC Edition and 16 GB of RAM. Here's what I was planning on:

GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC Edition ZT-P10510B-10L Card
RAM: HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Desktop Memory (HX318C10F/8)

Will the above hardware be compatible with my desktop? I've heard that the motherboard doesn't support in excess of 8GB RAM, is it true?

Solution

ahh! I must have assumed you already had 8gb of ram

please ignore my comments on it then

most likely yes, the ram will either default to 1333 or 1600mhz because of the motherboard

it also may not have the ability to load XMP profiles, so you may need to manually set ram timings to get the proper speed and such in the bios
1| You can download and install SIW and see what the maximum ram capacity for your board is. Although the spec's sheet show it to support a maximum of 8GB.
2| What is the processor you're currently running on the system? The platform if on the 3rd gen Core I processors will accept DDR3L-1600MHz ram kits.
3|What is the make and model of the PSU on your unit? How old is it?

Thanks for the reply m8!
Yep I can have a max of 8GB of RAM according to SIW damnit :/ .
And the processor is an old i3-2120 running on 3.3GHz. The PSU is about 2 years old and is from this company called Techcom which I have not heard of lol. And the RAM I linked above is 1866MHz and if I were to install it, would it outright not work at all or would it just work at 1600MHz like you mentioned? Coz there's no returning option for the RAM on Amazon and I dont want to end up with stuff that doesnt work lol.

changing the ram would do nothing

amazon accepts returns, what do you mean by this?

spend the money on a cpu upgrade which would actually increase your fps

that card does not require a 6-pin so your current 450w power supply is enough to run it

Yes but not always though. On the Amazon page, it says "This item is not returnable" I donno why.
And yes I really need RAM as I have only 2GB currently which struggles with Windows 10. And Just the RAM and the GPU is right under my budget, so cant afford to get a new CPU right now xDD

Damn. But lower RAM speeds shouldnt be much of a performance issue right? And the CPU is a tad too old, do you think it'll bottleneck the GTX 1050?
