My basic system configuration is as follows:

Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W ATX/EPS 12V Power Supply Model: W0133RU

ASUS SABERTOOTH X58 Intel X58 LGA1366 ATX Motherboard

Intel Core i7 960 Bloomfield LGA 1366 Processor

(2 = 24 GB) Kingston HyperX 12GB (3 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3-12800),
CL9, Unbuffered, Non-ECC, 240-Pin, Model: KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX

(2) EVGA 012-P3-1470-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit
GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP w/SLI Support

(2) Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

A note in my motherboard user guide says that intel may only support 1 dimm per channel of this particular size and speed of memory. Can someone shed some light on this? I don't know how great having this much memory will be, but I do know that when I render my art at 11" x 17" and 300 dpi, it take a huge amount of resources, and many hours on my current 4 gig 32 bit vista machine. Please help.

By the way, ram quantity is more critical to what I do than incredible speed.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

You should be fine running 6x4GB that HyperX DDR3-1600 in the Sabertooth x58 MB. Not sure what that note is alluding to...

Brand: ASUS
Model: Sabertooth X58

Number of Memory Slots: 6×240pin
Memory Standard: DDR3 1866/1800/1600/1333/1066
Maximum Memory Supported: 24GB
Channel Supported: Triple Channel

Well the note seems specific to the HyperX, intel XMP and the particular dimm size and speed. It's been more than 6 years since I built a system, and as you know many things have changed in that time.

I really appreciate your help with this.

Thanks,

Dave
