Will my PC get damaged by being left on carpet?

Even though it's far less powerful i prefer being on my laptop so my PC is just sitting there. It is fully connected so I just press the power button and it boot up but I only use it when I need to make a change on the system or want to extract data from the drive but other than those occasional times it's off. My Dad wants me to hook it up at my desk where I am on my laptop and his reasoning was "it's no use sitting there" where actually it's perfect where it is because without the PC at my desk being the desk is clean with very few cables. But the original question, will the PC get damaged by being off on carpet?

So long as it has feet so a little amount of air can pass underneath it will be OK. Both of mine sit on carpet to quieten them down a bit by absorbing vibration and no harm has ever come to them.

Being in thick carpeting is actually bad on a PC if the PSU is bottom mounted. That is where it gets its intake cooling air from. But sitting on desk or table is no problem.

Good point. I haven't seen a bottom mounted PSU for a while - are they really that low slung?

Do they really sit so low down as to be affected by thick-pile carpet yet still expect to draw in air to cool the PSU?

My PC is on thick carpet right now but I only turn it on on occasion. Could it sustain actual damage from being on for like 10 minutes a week?

I guess it would depend on the thickness of the carpet and the feet on the bottom of the case. I'd suggest setting the PC on a flat board if it must go on the floor.
