Yes that would be much better then your current PSU.
So the 6600K would be an improvement due to the extra cores and overclocking if your using a Z170/Z270 motherboard but we are seeing more then 4 cores utilized in games. Depending on your budget I would try for a i7 if possible or consider moving to a Ryzen platform.
