Will R9 270 or 270x work with 500w power supply and my CPU?

My motherboard is: GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P

My CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

And my Power Supply: COOLER MASTER eXtreme RP-500-PCAR 500W ATX12V V2.01 Power Supply

A) Will an R9 270 work?

I ask because the CPU is quite power hungry at 125 W.

And also because I'm not sure if this power supply has enough amps on the 12V rail (somewhat Greek to me) since it is so old.

B) Will a 270x work?

Thank you!

Solution
It will work, but keep in mind that that's not a quality PSU at all. The r9 270x minimum psu wattage required is 500w so it will be ok.

Keep in mind that the power supply should also have two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors

Best of luck!

Not a quality PSU? Ouch. I was also considering the GeForce 750 Ti since it is much more power efficient. But used prices on a 270 are very very good right now (~$110) compared to 750 Ti's (~$140).

Hmm, I'm not home right now so I can't check, but from the reviews on newegg, it seems my PSU only has one 6-pin connector.

- Any idea if it has one or two?

- Is there any way to add an additional 6-pin connector, if it really does only have one?

Most R9 270X requires two 6 pin whilst most R9 270 require one 6 pin. Would still recommend you get a better power supply. I used to have a 500W coolermaster psu which is a different model and has 18 amps on the two 12V rails but it wasn't really good enough.

If the r9 270 you're getting requires 2 6 pin connectors get one of these: http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww211/balds101/Molex-6Pin.jpg

What's the model of the r9 270 you're getting?

Ah thank you. Excellent picture.

I was considering this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GMGGZQE $110 used but from 3rd party

But after all the talk here about my power supply not being of very good quality, I decided against it. I went with a Gigabyte 750 Ti only $110 used but from Amazon Warehouse
