Will the AMD FX 6300 bottleneck my R9 270x?

Hi guys.
I im about too purchase a new processor for my computer since the current one (athlon x4 750K) is bottlenecking my Gigabyte r9 270x oc 2gb in some games like battlefield.

So i want to ask: will the fx6300 bottleneck my gpu?

I want to upgrade so i can play battlefield 4 with 64 players. (resolution 1080p) high/ultra settings


Current specs:
mobo: msi fm2 a75ma e35
cpu:amd athlon x4 750k black edition
Gpu: Gigabyte r9 270x OC edition
Psu ; corsair cx500
Ram:1x8gb corsair vengeance

Any other cpu suggestions are welcome. but im on a budget so thats why i chose the fx6300

Any suggestions for mobo's to go with the cpu are welcome.

Um the FX series are a AM3+ style socket but your current listed motherboard and CPU is an FM2. So that's not going to work and no it wouldn't bottleneck that video card.

Yep, no FX CPUs for you. Unless you change your motherboard to an AM3+, the best you can get currently is the athlon x4 760k. If you cannot find one of those (they don't sell them in Australia for example), then the next best choice is the A10 6800k.

I would be a bit surprised if the 6800k bottlenecked that GPU.

Last but not least, have you thought of overclocking your current 750? By all accounts, they overclock quite well. This might give you the extra power you want without breaking the bank.

As for motherboards for the 6300, you would need a 970, or 990 chipset motherboard. Unless you are planning on heavy overclocking or going for an octocore, I suggest a 970 chipset motherboard. One example is the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 which I recommend as a reliable, decent board for the 6 core and below FX CPUs, but there are many other boards available.

Yes i know i can't install the fx6300 with my current mobo but i haven't yet decided what motherboard i should buy.
(I'm still searching for the best cpu+mobo for the right price)

I don't know how to overclock so that's why i haven't done it yet and i don't know if it would help.
If i did overclock it would it make 64 player battlefield playable?

Pretty much any 970 series board will be fine as long as you stay with a single GPU and don't OC it too high. Asus, MSI and ASRock make some good midrange boards that won't cost a lot.

If you plan to overclock heavily, I recommend a good aftermarket CPu cooler and Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P for the 8+2 phase power. it costs a little more, but is worht every penny.

The 750K should go 4.5GHz with ease -- even on an inexpensive motherboard -- and will easily approach the performance of an FX-6300.

Your best alternative is to drop to a 32-player map -- where you may be able to run 40FPS on Ultra. On High you might hit 60FPS ... with drops in frames as 'typical'

Does Mantle even run on the R9 270Xs ?? ... that will likely give you your best boost in performance.

What can i do to make battlefield 4 playable with 64 players?
Btw changing from ultra to high or low doesn't do much

What cpu would you recommend instead?
(It doesn't have to be amd , intel is fine too)

If not overclocking, then pairing it with a H87, H81 or B85 motherboard is fine. If you choose a K version of an intel cpu (overclockable) then a Z87 motherboard is necessary.

ill just go with an i5, it was my first cpu of choice anyway.

No probs. Glad I could help.

I have heard about the stuttering of mantle from others. It seems it still needs a bit more time in the oven then. Pity, it could have saved you a few dollars, as mantle is meant to make older and inexpensive chips more competitive, but I have no doubt you will be quite happy with the i5. Paired with a decent gpu like your R9 270x, I don't think you will have any more worries.
