[SOLVED] Will the EVGA GeForce GT 710 work for me?

Solution
I wanted a graphics card that at least I could play some games like Fortnite or Rocket League. Also I wanted to increase graphics performance on some of my VMs.
You won't be able to play any games with a GT 710. The most you'd be able to do with that is just being able to see youtube videos and other simple 2D apps.
To be able to play any games at low to mid settings you'd need at least GTX 750 ti. A 1030 wouldn't work that well, but if you can't spend $110 for a 750 ti then I guess it'll be better than nothing.
Also, if you can spend a bit more, you should get a 1650. It's much, much better than gaming than either of the cards I last mentioned although it is a bit more expensive.

what are your goals for the graphics card?
I'd probably at least step up to a 1030 If I was to bother with better graphics. Its basically 4x the graphics performance, and 30 watts of power vs. 19watts of power for the 710
suggests you need 216 watts if I guessed everything you have right, along with a 1030.
the big variable I might have messed up is the CPU.

but if the 1030 would work, then yes, a 710 would also work.

if you look at nVidia's suggested minimum power supply, it is 300w, for the 1030, and cards that draw more than twice the power. I didn't fid the suggested PSU for the 710 as its an older chip.

Without upgrading the power supply you can try a GT730 GDDR5 (used). Getting a 710 is not worth it, especially new and for games. 1030 would be a lot faster and may also work but will be more expensive. Either way make sure you check for the latest BIOS for the system before installing the video card.

I'll second the notion on getting a GT 730 GDDR5. It's not a good GPU by any means, but a GT 730 will give a lot more performance than a GT 710 unless the game is, like, Solitaire. GT 710s are basically only really good ideas when there are no gaming needs and you have a CPU without integrated graphics. It's not a gaming GPU it's a "I need to actually see Windows" GPU.

Depends on the price, new the 1030 is better, but harder to find used. If someone is looking at a 710 that usually means they want the cheapest thing they can find, and a used 730 GDDR5 would be half the price of a used 1030.
used 730 + new PSU would be more expensive than a new 1030.

and since this is a questionable PSU, that might not allow any graphics card to run, I would want to be able to return it if something doesn't work.

So should I get the GT 1030? And if so where could I find the cheapest option, I don't have a big budget.
$81

same one $80 on amazon
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce...ld=1&keywords=1030&qid=1603999852&s=pc&sr=1-4

I think it would be worth the extra $20 or $30.

There is of course an increase in the risk that it won't work due to the low power CPU (the risk isn't zero with the 710 either, this is a low grade and old PSU), so double check the return policy, but should be good on Amazon, I'd think.
