Hi, I'm upgrading my current computer (specs below) with a new CPU: FX-6300 and a new GPU: GTX 650 Ti
I plan to finish Bioshock Infinite, I want to start Far Cry 3 and I want to start playing BF3 without framerate issues, while running Skype (most of the time).
Will this be an issue? I want to do some research before I slap some money into an upgrade and find something is wrong. Will I have a big bottleneck issue? Will I have overheat problems? Is this just a bad idea in general to get this match of CPU and GPU? My budget is $300. What will be my average FPS for these games? (I can't find any benchmarks with my set up)
CPU: AMD Athlon II x4 640
MOBO: AM3
GPU: GT 520
PSU: 575W
Case: RAIDMAX Thunder
All help is appreciated greatly!

Not to keep confusing you but if you are going to spend the $309.99 on a 660ti why not save yourself $60 and get a 7870XT that is slightly faster than a 660Ti for $249.99 plus it comes with Crysis 3 for free. With an easy 1200/1600 OC it's performance is right on par with a 7950. Here's a newegg link and a tomshardware review.

I'm almost positive that will not fit in my case at all.

In reply to cmi86,
that looks like a promising card, and I think I'm going to go with your suggestion.
Does anyone have any disagreements to my choice?

Considering I do not know exactly if the GTX 760 will fit in my case at the time because I'm not near it, I'm going to see if it does.
If it would fit, I'm going to get the GTX 760, if it doesnt fit I'm going to get the HD 7870.

Well, Tahiti LE is good, but GTX 760 is better. The reason I said to think it over for a couple days was because GTX 760 was about to launch. ;-)

Tahiti LE's main problem is a trio..... power consumption, heat and noise. I recently tested that Power Color Myst, and while it performs well, and has come with as many as 4 free games recently, it is hot and loud for my liking. It's been cheaper and had a better gaming bundle, plus it is outperformed now at $250. So IMO it is no longer a great bargain. A full 7950 gets you 4 free games, but really we are getting pretty expensive. Knowing when to draw the line isn't always easy.

I'll soon be testing X4 640 with HD 7970, but won't have data charts to share for a few weeks. I have a hard time justifying more than a $250 GTX 760.

The 7870 Tahiti LE is 10.5" long, you'll find some 760s at 9.5".

I don't know why the XT gets such a bad rap on heat and noise... I have set a custom fan profile and have yet to see my GPU EVER break 70c and that's running at 1200/1600. Yeah it's a bit loud screaming at 100% but then again it barely ever hits that and if it does I can't hear it over stereo or headphones booming out the sound of game play. The "problems" of the XT are honestly extremely trivial, especially at it's price point. All the same if the 760 is faster and it fits in the case go for it. If not the XT isn't very far off its heels at the same price.

By XT, I assume you mean the Sapphire right? It is supposedly quieter. The Power Color Myst can get quiet loud, but it depends on air flow and ambient room temperatures. If you overclock, it can just scream and IMO ruin the gaming experience. Compared to my stack of test cards it is by far the loudest one.

Actually no I meant LE, i was thinking LE and saying XT the entire time lol, whoops my bad lol.
I have the Powerecolor Myst and have my fan curve set 20% to 40c, 40% @ 50c, 60% @ 60c, 80% @ 70c, 100% @ 80c. It idles at about 32-35c depending on ambient and the highest I have ever seen the temps are about 65-68 depending on ambient. Idk maybe I got lucky and got a midas card lol but even OC'd to 1200/1600 I don't find this card to be exceptionally hot or obnoxiously loud.

Yeah, it's a weird card that way. Some folks feel it screams, others do not. Some owners change the TIM and find it helps, so maybe it's poor application consistency at the factory. I think the difference is a fine line between ambient temps, airflow, case dampening, etc. Out of the box the cooler is slow to respond, but when it spikes upwards, it takes off.

At 50-60%, that fan is loud for me, and 80% hit's my tolerance level with a headset even. Raise yours to 90%, I call that obnoxious. Your case may have better dampening than mine. Loud cards just aren't a bargain to me. But again, not everyone complains about these.

It's definitely not what I would call a quiet card, it's not quiet like my old 560Ti DCU2 that's for sure ! I guess it's just not at a point where it really bugs me to a fault. Everyone has their own tolerance for things like this I suppose. I just looked into the GTX 760 and man is that thing Impressive @$250 for moving past the 7870LE in terms of performance and power draw. Even more impressive is how much pressure it puts on the 7950 from that $250 slot ! Definitely going to recommend this beast from now on !

Thanks everyone for helping me make an educated decision on what I should spend money on. Here is my decision.
If my case can fit a GTX 760 inside of it, I'm going to get it. If it doesn't I'm going to get a HD 7870 which is higher or equal to the GTX 660 Ti in power. Later on when I feel the need I'm going to upgrade my processor to something more buff. Thanks everyone!

thats not true, my laptop, has a complete sh*t gpu (radeon hd 7640g), and it only just runs low settings, i think a 650Ti could pull it off

FC3 at 1080P is very demanding.

i know that, but like i said my gpu is crap so i dont want to risk £40 on a game i probably cant play, therefore i dont know if my gpu can run it. But i did buy BF3 and i can barely run it on low settings.
