Hi, I am about to build my first pc and I was wondering if my i5-6600k with bottleneck a GTX 1060 also will my GA-z170-HD3 be good enough.

Specs:
Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ARMOR OC Video Card

Thanks

Yes it will be. But as said above, do you plan on overclocking, and if so I would recommend the Z170 Motherboard, if not, then either stick with what you have, and get the 6600 rather than the 6600K. And then use the extra money on a better GPU (GTX 1070). And I agree with his statement, the performance increase from the 1060 to 1070 will definitely be worth it.

Not quite sure what you're on about as your motherboard being good enough, can you elaborate? Do you mean good enough for overclocking, or good enough to withstand all of the components etc?

Other than that, I highly doubt the 6600k will bottleneck the GTX 1060, especially if you plan on overclocking it. The 6600k is one of the best, powerful i5 chips available today, and for the price, it is definitely worth the money if you plan on overclocking and plan on some really serious gaming and usage.

A 6600k can keep up with a 1080, even sli 1080's would work fairly well. Do you have an interest in overclocking? If no then its not needed for a gaming PC. By forgetting overclocking parts and running a H170 board, stock cooler and an 6600 or 6500 could you buy a GTX 1070? If yes then do that, it would give far better performance.

Hey man thanks for the repsonse, I have a $1400 AUD budget so I can't afford the 1070 unless there is an build that is better with a 1070 for $1400 AUD?

OK I will do thats a great Idea thanks man I have not planned to overclock. I originally went with the i5-6600 instead of the 6600k for that reason but I didn't know if it was good enough to withstand the components

Good news, I have managed to make that budget, and you could do it with a 1060 instead. But I have only gone over by $9.

Here is the link:

I have not included the case as I will let you choose that, but if you can save another lets say $40, that will allow you to have a 1070. I have downgraded to an i5-6500, but if you think you need the 6600, you can do that and get a GTX 1060 or GTX 980 (Maybe TI if it fits in your budget), But I believe the 980 is still better than the GTX 1060, and I believe the 980TI is close to the 1070, but not as good.

Also, if you would prefer, you could also change the 4x4GB RAM to the 2x8GB version.

You're a Legend mate, I really want to 1070 because I feel like it will last me a long time i still would like a 6600 and I could probally pump up to $1500 but thanks man I really appriciate the help. I know the GTX 980ti is very similar but for some reason I really want one of the latest cards for my very first PC

EDIT: I Just changed it here http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/XknVcc see if that looks good? I really want an SSD but I think Ill have to wait

Thats fair enough, but don't forget the money for a case and there is still quite a difference between the 6500 and 6600, but with $1500 you can definitely do it.

I have edited the link, added the 6600 and put an example case in there, and you can edit then whenever you get access to it.

To be honest, that is a pretty nice case, especially for the case, but I like the window on the side and LEDs, that's probably only why.

I'm glad I could help you,

Have a great day!

-Dom.

I have played around a bit, and managed to drop the price:

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/dGYZZ8

You can always remove the SSD, but this is only $90 over $1500. I mean, if you have a spare HDD from an old computer, then you can always re-use that after reformatting and clearing all of the data.

Actually, you could even drop the price by removing the CPU cooler, and the i5-6600 will come with a stock cooler, and you can use that, then upgrade later. This will make it just over $20 over the $1500

I have edited it again, and changed it to a cheaper, but still compatible and good motherboard, and changed the RAM to the same brand but DDR4-2133 version, to save an extra $20-ish.

The parts will probably last quite a while.

And the 6600 was released late last year, so it's not even 1 year old, and obviously the 1070 is newly released. So they would definitely be usable for a good 3-4 years depending on the requirements of games. But I read your PM, the 1070 is a little overkill for just 1080p60 gameplay, you could probably do with a 970 for that and save more money, maybe a 980 and it will confirm most games running at 1080p60. And there's always room for quick upgrades if you get a little bit of spare money, such as more storage, and if you would like to remove the CPU Cooler and purchase it later, it'll get it closer to your $1400 budget.

Check this out http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/m6ZmkT really want the 1070 tho this is even better http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/FtF68K and also what do you think of this graphics card Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

I would only get the 1070 if you were to have a 1440p or 120+Hz monitor (Or both) as that would be worth the purchase.

I have an Asus Strix GTX 970, and I can run games such as GTA 5 on maximum settings (OR close) and I have applied a slight overclock too. The cooling on that card is really good and can keep it around 50c while under heavy load.

There's also these 2 options:

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/gpkZZ8 - Has the GTX 980

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/6d2Dcc - Has the STRIX GTX 970
