Will the key from original work if i install a new one?

So i have a compaq hp desktop.
I got lots of virus i decided to format and it seems i cant do it as i dont have the repair disc and hp is not making one anymore.

So i'll have to download a new 32 bit iso windows 7 home premium and install it to my pc.

The thing is... Will my key from the original "corrupted" os works? The OS im running now comes from hp. It has hp stuffs installed in.

and im not sure if my original "corrupted" os is running oem or retail...
