Will there be that much if a difference between a 24inch 1080p or 1440p 27 inch monitor?

I am deciding between a vg248qe or a rog swift. I a wondering if the lower frame rate is worth the higher resolution, specifically on those sizes.

Solution

I have never done sli either but ive heard its amazing but some games arent made as well as they should be. Post another thread with any questions about 970 or 980 sli. If I were you I would go with the Asus ROG Swift and go with the 2 980s. Be sure to give a best answer to someone
1) You can still choose 1920x1080 on the 1440p monitor for a game so that is a non-issue.

(also the SIZE won't affect frame rate, only the chosen RESOLUTION.)

I play many most games at 1920x1080 on my GTX680. At 2560x1440 I play Torchlight, CIV5, Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3 etc. Most shooters I'm at 1920x1080.

2) Some games look far, far better at 2560x1440 such as CIV5 (anything with small text/HUD elements). Also the extra 3" of the 27" is very significant.

3) ROG SWIFT has G-Sync which I don't believe the other monitor has. That can make games much, much smoother. You will need a supported NVidia card to use that feature though.

Summary:
Cost difference aside the SWIFT is an amazing monitor so I recommend it.

I own a ROG Swift and would recommend it to anyone that could afford it. Both monitors have a 144hz refresh rate and not only does the Swift have a higher resolution it has a much higher quality panel so the colors arent going to look as washed out as they do on the vg248qe. Not to mention the Gsync and ULMB on the Swift.

Update:

Without G-SYNC when gaming on a 144Hz monitor you have to be able to maintain above 144FPS if you want VSYNC working (or force "Half Adaptive VSYNC in the video control panel to game at 72FPS).

With G-SYNC however the GPU simply outputs the frames and the monitor draws what it gets so no problem with synching.

*Long story short you can simply put in the "ULTRA" settings for a game or tweak a bit until you get your desired frame rate (such as 50FPS or higher) and you should have a smooth gaming experience without lag, tearing etc.

One of the main reasons to game at 144FPS is to enable VSYNC but reduce the LAG (since the GPU output gets buffered there's less lag with a higher frame rate). With G-SYNC however you can game at a much LOWER FRAME RATE and not have things feel sluggish.

For $200 more why not go with the rog swift that bigger and can handle 1440p at 144 hz? You already spent at least $1000 on the 980s why not show off their true potential? You may even want to look at 4k

Yea you will be getting over 60 fps with 2 980s with almost every game at 1440p. Battlefield 4 you will be maxed out and can run over 100 fps at 1440p. Witcher 3 which comes out in May will be a big test for your 980s
