Will this be cool enough to run 24/7 without cooling?

Solution
Hey there, quantasm2.

The WD Purple drives usually run cool and they are designed for 24/7, always-on, high-definition surveillance security systems in addition to the fact that the HDD won't be in a closed, not ventilated enclosure, I'd say that there shouldn't be any issues in terms of temperature. However, due to the fact that the drive would be connected via a docking station, you should be a bit more careful with it (as you should with any drive connected with a docking station) - liquid spills , accidental bumps, etc.
Just FYI, here's a link where you can take a closer look at the drive's features: WD Purple

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Solution

The WD Purple drive would definitely work and so would the HDD dock! Just ensure security around the dock like Boogieman_WD suggested.
