Will this CPU be compatible with this motherboard?

Im gonna Buy a Gigabyte B85-HD3 S1150 Intel B85 DDR3 ATX and a Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz 6MB S1150 Quad Core 'Devils Canyon' sounds wierd but im only use to AMD eg I get 990fx, 970, fm2 am2 am3 am3+ but i just dont get all this 1150 2011 1155 H87 etc...

please help thanks in advanced

Yes, however – Some Intel B85 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.

You can use pcpartpicker, create a new build to check for compatibility. Im not sure if this one will need the bios update.

According to asus, in order to use their 8 series chipsets with haswell refresh/devil's canyon (4690/4690k/4790/4790k) you'll need to first install an older haswell cpu, perform the bios update then you can use the new cpu.

Dont get a 4690k with a B85 motherboard, its an unlocked CPU and that board is not meant to be used for overclocking, also you may need to upgrade the board's BIOS to use it. Just get a non haswell Refresh i5 like the 4440 or the 4570, those will work in any hH81/B85 board out of the box, or if you want to overclock get the 4690k and a good z97 motherboard.

With Z97 and H97 boards you can put any cpu that you want, Z97 boards are for overclocking and H97 are for budget builds. The B85 boards are for tight budget builds, you cant overclock with them, so there is no point in using a $230 CPU if a $180 one will perform the same.
