Will this CPU/ Motherboard switch be as easy as I hope?

Hi there.
So, some of you may have seen my previous post about my AMD FX-9590 previously with horrendous detail as far as the rest of my system goes. I would like to apologize about that. Now, we get to business.
I am going to start attending the Art Institutes of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for a course on Game design. I know that this requires at least a moderate amount of processor power but my current setup is flawed quite obviously. So, Here are my specs.

AMD FX UNLOCKED 9590 Eight core processor
Corsair H60 all in one cpu cooler
ASUS m5a99fx Pro R2.0 motherboard
Msi NVIDIA 660ti 3gb (dont make them anymore but its an excellent card)
Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB RAM DDR3
Cooler master 700w power supply
Cooler master HAF 912 mid tower.
1x1TB generic HDD (pulled out of an old HP envy) and 1x2TB Seagate HDD

Peripherals:
HP w2338h LCD monitor
Razer Black widow ultimate keyboard
Razer Naga 2014 elite gaming mouse
AUX into my stereo for sound

Now for my question.
Would I be able to switch out only my Motherboard and Processor and replace them with Intel specific Hardware without incurring any form of problem. Side note: I will intend on formatting and re installing my HDD's with Windows 7 Ultimate. So no issues will arise with my OS.

And If I can do this, what would your recommendation be for a motherboard/processor combo under $800. (I would prefer i7)
If you thing my GPU isnt up to par either make the money cap $1300. (and keep it Nvidia please)

Thanks for any and all tips/help.

I dont think I would bother going SLI. Seems like a lot of trouble. Unless you can talk some sense into me, that is.
